Dear John,
There was a thing France did in music in the 1990s known at the time round’a’bouts as French House.
In 1997 French band, Rinôçérôse , released instrumental guitar , drums , keyboard ‘dance’ music using a Ebow. The Ebow was THE feature of the bands formula.
Le Mobilier from the Rinôçérôse album Installation Sonore has the Ebow front and center. Its on Youtube.
The members of Rinôçérôse were pre graduate psychology students in university then.
Ive spelled the name of the band verbatum because the french one is not the late 1960s American rock band with the awesome cover art, Rinocerose.
Im so very very sorry i have so few 1990s Australian bands to compare with the era. And i was more back of house , industry , than being surprised by what showed up on t.v. or radio. Tape to tape copies of Nirvana Lp Bleach zoomed around the planet is HOW Bleach got pressed by WATERFRONT RECORDS. C90 tapes recorded off home FM radios of Londons pirate radio stations arriving in Australia were not The Boat That Rocked OST.
The minute we heard Kurt Cobain had died , 11am Saturday morning , there was RIP Cobain tshirts in the stores on that Mondays opening.
Not that i dont have many many Aus artists in the collection.
Australia doesnt seem to recognise how big appeal and influential its metal scene has been.
Pendulum had sold millions of actual real physical units to money paying consumers in the overseas markets all the while.
The Avalanches didnt kick off with the Australian audience first, heh?
Carl Cox has a predigous talent for hearing / listening to records to be able to disect each with volume controls while as many as five records on five turntables play at the same time as one continuos measured ‘song’. Carl Cox is also well known to play sets of records for hours and hours. He lives somewhere near Frankston. It wouldnt be impossible to think Carl Cox wouldnt create the greatest Fauves mix tape album. A non stop super set of all The Fauves records.
